Covid-19 Vaccines

Covid-19 vaccination is open to everyone in the United States age 6 months and over. It is important that you stay-up-to-date on vaccines and boosters to minimize your chance of serious disease.

Boosters

Current Covid-19 boosters add Omicron BA.4 and BA.5 spike protein components to the original vaccine composition, helping to restore protection that has waned by targeting variants that are more transmissible and immune-evading.

Our hospitals do not provide vaccines to the general public, however vaccines and boosters are free and readily available at pharmacies, grocery stores, county health clinics, and at various other venues. Vaccines.gov is a helpful site to find vaccine close to you.

Covid-19 testing is required for patients before certain procedures and surgery. You will receive instructions from your doctor.

Vaccines Required for Staff

The hospitals of the Albany Med Health System require all employees to be vaccinated with the Covid-19 vaccine. The policy extends to physicians, nurses, Albany Medical College, Visiting Nurses, contractors and all employees with clinical or nonclinical responsibilities. Annual flu shots are also required per New York State law.

Post-Covid Care Clinic (Long Covid)

Some people who have had Covid-19 experience prolonged illness after recovering from their acute illness, including shortness of breath, cough, fatigue, a racing heart, chest pain, an inability to concentrate, or malaise.

Led by pulmonologists in collaboration with a team from many specialties, the clinic provides care for all long Covid health issues.

The clinic treats patients 18 years and older who have lingering symptoms at least four weeks after their diagnosis.
