Albany Medical College faculty were instrumental in the development of a new, first of its kind comprehensive educational resource on pelvic pain.

The ICS Global Pelvic Pain Exchange Curriculum is an open-access series of 85 peer-reviewed presentations by and discussions with international experts that covers 12 core topics, from diagnosing and managing pelvic pain to deep dives into specific types of pelvic pain and ways to treat it.

Led by Albany Medical College Professor of Urology, Obstetrics and Gynecology, and Neurology Elise De, MD, who also chairs ICS’s Pelvic Pain Committee, the 20-hour curriculum is designed for everyone involved in pelvic pain care, including urologists, gynecologists, colorectal surgeons, gastroenterologists, physiotherapists, nurses, neurologists, neurosurgeons, physiatrists, orthopedists, pain specialists, radiologists, psychologists, rheumatologists, and patient advocates.

“This project is just one small example of the caliber of the faculty at large at Albany Med,” said Dr. De. “Through collaboration, we offer patients more than any of us could provide by ourselves.”

In addition to Dr. De, Albany Med faculty presenters include neurologist and pain management specialist Charles Argoff, MD, who is also a member of the ICS’s Pelvic Pain Committee, gynecologist Jennifer Pollard, MD, and functional neurosurgeon Kevin Mansfield, MD. Christine Cui, a medical assistant in the Department of Urology, edited and compiled the individual webinars into the curriculum.
