Sleep Clinic Reaches 10-Year Accreditation Milestone

Albany Medical Center’s Sleep Clinic has been reaccredited by the American Academy of Sleep Medicine (AASM), marking 10 consecutive years of accreditation. Initially accredited in 2016 and reaccredited in 2021, with this most recent reaccreditation, the clinic is now accredited for an additional 10 years, until 2036.

AASM-accredited sleep centers provide diagnostic and therapeutic care for people who have problems related to sleep and alertness, including obstructive sleep apnea, chronic insomnia, restless leg syndrome, and narcolepsy. The gold standard in sleep care, AASM accreditation reflects a commitment to delivering high-quality, patient-centered services that help people sleep better and live healthier lives.

“Sleep Well, Live Better” is also this year’s theme for World Sleep Day, recognized on March 13 with the aim of raising awareness about the importance of sleep for physical and mental health.

Good sleep on a regular basis supports brain health and helps promote memory, learning, and resilience. Poor sleep can lower immune response and has been linked to obesity, diabetes, coronary artery disease, and cardiovascular mortality.

Since opening in 2015, Albany Med’s Sleep Clinic has seen more than 10,000 overnight sleep lab patients and more than 6,000 home sleep testing patients.

“We’ve grown from two overnight sleep study beds to four, and now have eight home sleep apnea test kits available to our patients,” said Erika Just, a registered polysomnographic technologist and the clinic’s practice manager. “We’re extremely proud to be recognized for our long-standing dedication to high-quality care for people who have problems sleeping.”

Albany Med’s Sleep Clinic sees patients 16 years and older at 1365 Washington Ave., Suite 200, in Albany. Overnight sleep studies are available six nights a week; direct referrals for sleep lab testing do not require an initial office visit.
