Radiothon Brings in over $281,000 for the Bernard & Millie Duker Children’s Hospital

The 27th annual News Radio 103.1 & 810 WGY and 99.5 The River Cares for Kids Radiothon raised over $281,000 for the Bernard & Millie Duker Children’s Hospital. All funds raised directly support the programs and services provided by the children’s hospital, the only children’s hospital in the region and the local Children’s Miracle Network (CMN) hospital. Market 32/Price Chopper and Star Roofing served as title sponsors.
Barbara E. Ostrov, MD, chief of service at the children’s hospital and chair of the Department of Pediatrics, said, “We are incredibly grateful for everyone who supported the Cares for Kids Radiothon, including everyone who donated, our sponsors, our media partners at iHeartMedia Albany and CBS6 WRGB, and our patients and families who shared their inspiring stories. You all helped make this another successful year. As the only children’s hospital in the region, we can continue offering the highest level of care across more than 40 pediatric specialties thanks to your dedication and generosity.”
During the two-day event held on May 1 and 2, multiple patients, family members, and children’s hospital colleagues shared stories of hope and healing through journeys with congenital heart defects, cancer, emergencies, and other critical illnesses and injuries.
“For children, the answer should always be the Bernard & Millie Duker Children’s Hospital,” said Rebecca Spalten, whose son Ethan is a pediatric endocrinology and rheumatology patient. “The staff is what makes this place special. Every professional we’ve met has been helpful and amazing. Ethan is in really good hands.”
“iHeartMedia is honored to continue our long-standing partnership with Albany Medical Center to raise funds in support of the children treated at the Bernard & Millie Duker Children’s Hospital,” said iHeartMedia Area President Rob VanDerbeck. “All of us at iHeart love taking part in the Radiothon and we are grateful for the generosity of our listeners each year who unite with us to help ensure that every child receives the care they deserve."
Since inception, the Cares for Kids Radiothon has raised over $6.5 million to benefit pediatric patients in the community.
