Anesthesiologist Kevin W. Roberts Receives the Albany Med Pillars Award at Annual Cogswell Dinner

Kevin W. Roberts, MD ’77, one of the longest serving chairs of the Albany Medical Center Department of Anesthesiology, received one of Albany Med’s highest honors – The Pillars Award – at the 24th Annual Arnold Cogswell Dinner.

The Pillars Award was established in 1997 to recognize individuals who epitomize the spirit of the institution, and whose work and contributions, over the course of many years, reflect the community-based nature of Albany Med’s missions.

Dr. Roberts, now retired, served as chair of the Department of Anesthesiology from 1999 to 2020. He was president of the Albany Medical College Alumni Association, served on numerous boards and committees at Albany Med and in New York State, including the New York State Society of Anesthesiologists, the New York Health Plan Association Task Force on Bariatric Surgery, and the Committee on Academic Anesthesiology of the New York State Society of Anesthesiologists.

“For more than 40 years at Albany Med, Dr. Roberts was a leader, a mentor, an educator, a healer, and a philanthropist,” said Dennis P. McKenna, MD ’94, president and CEO of the Albany Med Health System. “He has always believed in the mission, vision, and values, and he has supported them in all his work. We are extremely grateful for all he has done in support of Albany Med.”

Dr. Roberts joins a group of individuals who have shaped the growth of the Medical Center for the past several decades.

“I am profoundly grateful for this honor – joining the list of Pillars honorees. I hold all of the recipients in high esteem, and I am humbled to be among them,” Dr. Roberts said. “Albany Medical College gave me my profession and Albany Medical Center gave me my career.”
