Albany Medical Center Welcomes Pediatric Surgeon Christina Theodorou

Christina Theodorou, MD, has joined the Division of Pediatric Surgery at the Bernard & Millie Duker Children’s Hospital at Albany Medical Center and has been appointed assistant professor at Albany Medical College.

Dr. Theodorou is board-certified in general surgery and board-eligible in pediatric surgery. She specializes in pediatric general and thoracic surgery, offering the full breadth of pediatric surgical procedures, including both elective and emergency operations for children.

Dr. Theodorou completed a pediatric surgery fellowship at Northwell Health Cohen Children’s Medical Center in Queens. She completed a general surgery residency at University of California Davis Medical Center in Sacramento, Calif., where she served as chief resident and vice chair for Surgical Based Services on the Resident Medical Staff Committee. During her residency, Dr. Theodorou also completed a dedicated pediatric surgery research fellowship at UC Davis, focusing on general pediatric surgical conditions and fetal surgery. Dr. Theodorou earned her medical degree at Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine in Chicago.

Dr. Theodorou has co-authored more than 50 peer-reviewed publications and book chapters and has delivered dozens of regional, national, and international presentations. She is a member of the American College of Surgeons and the American Pediatric Surgical Association.

Before entering the medical field, Dr. Theodorou worked as an assistant language teacher for a Japanese exchange and teaching program where she designed and taught English language courses at multiple schools in Japan.
