Pediatric Cardiology
Complete Care for the Smallest Hearts
Nearly one in every 100 babies born each year will have a congenital heart defect, the most common birth defect. About 25 percent of those children will need an intervention within the first year of life.
The Albany Med Health System is proud to offer the region's only comprehensive pediatric cardiology care center for patients of all ages, from infancy through adulthood, with congenital cardiac diseases. Children in need of cardiac surgery or a catheterization procedure can get advanced care close to home at the Bernard & Millie Duker Children's Hospital.
With a strong team of specialty trained pediatric cardiologists, cardiothoracic surgeons, and nurses, our Congenital Heart Program stands out in the region, with success rates that far surpass the national average reported by The Society of Thoracic Surgeon' Congenital Heart Surgery Database.
Comprehensive Heart Care
Our outpatient Pediatric Cardiology group, Capital District Pediatric Cardiology Associates, provides consultative services for a wide range of clinical concerns. New patients, from infants to young adults, with known or potential heart conditions are evaluated with comprehensive office care and referred for advanced surgical or catheterization procedures at the Bernard & Millie Duker Children's Hospital.
Our cardiologists work closely and collaboratively with Pediatric Cardiac Surgery, Pediatric Interventional Cardiology, Maternal Fetal Medicine, and other pediatric subspecialty services to facilitate care for complex conditions.
We provide 24/7 coverage for phone consultations with providers and patients.

Pediatric Heart Surgery and the Congenital Heart Program
Families in the Capital Region are fortunate to have one of the state and nation's top pediatric cardiothoracic surgery programs at Albany Medical Center. Our Congenital Heart Program consistently ranks among the top performers for positive patient outcomes in New York State.
The program is led by Neil Devejian, MD, one of the most experienced pediatric cardiothoracic surgeons in the nation. He has performed more than 2,000 operations to correct congenital heart defects, and has more than two decades of experience treating the most complex cases. As director of the Congenital Heart Program, he also performs cardiac surgery for congenital conditions affecting adults.
