Dr. MacLachlan is the Falk Family Chair of the Department of Urology, professor of urology, and chief of the hospital’s urology service. In this role, she becomes Albany Medical Center’s first female chair of urology, and is one of nine women currently serving as chair of urology at an academic medical center in the U.S.
Specializing in urogynecology and reconstructive pelvic surgery, Dr. MacLachlan cares for women with a wide range of urologic issues, including pelvic organ prolapse, overactive bladder, urinary incontinence, and voiding dysfunction. She also cares for both men and women with urologic concerns caused by neurological conditions, including spinal cord injury, stroke, Parkinson’s disease, and multiple sclerosis.
Dr. MacLachlan completed a fellowship in female urology and urogynecology at Medical University of South Carolina, and a residency in urology at New York-Presbyterian/Columbia University. She earned her medical degree from Yale University School of Medicine. Board certified in urology, she has also served as a fellow of the Association of American Medical Colleges (AAMC) Leadership Education and Development (LEAD) Program and of the American Urological Association Leadership Program. She earned her undergraduate degree from Massachusetts Institute of Technology and began her career as a research and development engineer with a biomedical device company, where she designed and developed one of the first drug-eluting cardiac stents.
