White Coat Ceremony Welcomes Medical Student Class of 2030

Albany Medical College celebrated its White Coat Ceremony today with 145 incoming medical students, their friends, and families at The Palace Theatre in Albany. In addition to donning their symbolic white coats for the first time, students also recited the Declaration of Geneva, a modern-day physician’s oath.

Selected from more than 14,000 applications, the Class of 2030 comes from 24 states, including 42 students from New York and 19 from the Capital Region. Twenty-seven languages are spoken by the new students, and 19 birth countries are represented.

Thirty-seven of the new students graduated from one of Albany Medical College’s joint degree programs at Siena College, Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, and Union College. Nineteen are entering with master’s degrees, while the majority have undergraduate degrees in biological sciences.

“For our new students, receiving the white coat honors a sacred commitment to treat every patient with integrity, compassion, and deep respect,” said Alan S. Boulos, MD, ’94, Albany Med Health System Executive Vice President and The Lynne and Mark D. Groban, MD ’67 Distinguished Dean of Albany Medical College. “As they begin their journeys, we look forward to mentoring them in the same academic and clinical excellence our communities know us for.”

The ceremony wraps up a week of orientation activities and the students’ first week of classes.
