Same-Day Surgery Center, More Specialty Care Coming to Greene, Columbia Counties
Albany Med Health System to undertake significant expansion of Greene Medical Arts
The Albany Med Health System broke ground today on a significant project to expand medical services offered at Greene Medical Arts in Catskill. It will include the first same-day surgery center serving Columbia and Greene counties.
The redesigned space will include:
- Four state-of-the-art operating rooms
- Two procedure rooms
- An advanced cardiac care center for complex conditions
- Orthopedic, mental health, women’s health, and primary care; as well as lab and medical imaging services
- Additional specialties not currently found in Columbia or Greene counties
The Greene Medical Arts building was acquired by Columbia Memorial Health (CMH) in 1991. Since then, it has housed several specialty clinics.
“CMH has a 130-year history consistently evolving the delivery of health care,” said Dorothy Urschel, DNP, president and CEO of CMH. “Our patients have asked for same-day surgical care in a comfortable, accessible environment, and highly specialized care closer to home. With our connection to the Albany Med Health System, a transformed Greene Medical Arts allows us to redouble our commitment to all the people we serve.”
CMH was the first hospital to join the Albany Med Health System in 2016. Since then, the partnership has expanded access for 110,000 Columbia and Greene County residents to the full resources of the Albany Med Health System, which has 900 physicians and 100 medical and surgical specialties. Last year, the System launched a single electronic medical record that is shared by Albany Medical Center, CMH, Glens Falls Hospital, and Saratoga Hospital. This allows for easier transitions to additional specialists and higher levels of care.
Albany Med Health System President and CEO Dennis P. McKenna, MD, said, “Greene Medical Arts fulfills our mission to expand access to care, build stronger connections to enhanced services, and solidify CMH as a critical access point to the best care when and where it is needed—today, tomorrow, and long into the future.”
The $25 million project, expected to be complete in 2027, will be funded by state grants, philanthropic support, and additional support from the Albany Med Health System. Greene Medical Arts will remain open during construction.
