Pulmonologist Dr. Tej Gonuguntla Joins Albany Medical Center

Pulmonologist and critical care physician Varun tej Gonuguntla, MD, has joined the Division of Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine at Albany Medical Center.

Dr. Gonuguntla sees adults with general pulmonary conditions. He has a special interest in pleural effusion (also known as fluid on the lungs) and bronchiectasis, a chronic lung condition where the airways become widened, allowing mucus to build up and increasing the risk of infection. He also cares for hospitalized patients in the intensive care units at Albany Medical Center and Albany Stratton VA Medical Center.

Board certified in internal medicine, Dr. Gonuguntla is a member of the American Thoracic Society, Society of Critical Care Medicine, and American College of Chest Physicians. He completed a fellowship in pulmonary and critical care medicine at Icahn School of Medicine at Elmhurst Hospital Center in Queens, where he was chief fellow/education fellow in his final year. He completed a residency in internal medicine at Maimonides Medical Center in Brooklyn, where he served as chief resident. Originally from North Carolina, he earned his medical degree from St. George’s University School of Medicine in Grenada, West Indies. He lives in Niskayuna with his wife, Laura Pucillo, MD, who will join Albany Medical Center as an attending physician in the pediatric intensive care unit later this month, and their children.
