Mouzakes leads medical and regulatory affairs, nursing, ambulatory services, hospital ancillary services, and emergency management for the region’s only academic medical center and Level 1 adult and pediatric trauma centers. In his new position, Dr. Mouzakes will also oversee hospital operations, clinical strategy, workforce development, and quality and safety performance, further advancing Albany Med Health System’s mission to provide unparalleled care, education, and discovery. He will be pivotal in advancing First Choice 2030: to make the Albany Med Health System the first choice for patient experience, quality, and clinical excellence. Dr. Mouzakes will work closely with the team in Albany as well as the CEOs of the Albany Med Health System’s hospitals in Hudson, Glens Falls, and Saratoga Springs, and the CEO of the Albany Med Health System Visiting Nurses, to strengthen collaboration and coordination so every person has ready access to the right care at the right time in the right place.

“It is a profound honor to serve as CEO of Albany Medical Center Hospital,” said Dr. Mouzakes. “This institution has been my professional home since medical school. I am inspired every day by the talent, dedication, and compassion of our teams. Together, we will advance First Choice 2030 by delivering exceptional quality, improving the patient and family experience, and ensuring access to the most advanced academic and specialty care for the communities we serve.”

Dr. Mouzakes has been an innovator of modern, person-centered health care for decades and one of the most sought after ENT surgeons in northeastern New York. Patients and families have lauded Dr. Mouzakes’ expertise and compassion. He was widely recognized for his expertise with cochlear implants for pediatric patients and was a vocal advocate for children requiring hearing aids. He is also passionate about ensuring our area is positioned for care in the future by training the next generation of medical professionals. Dr. Mouzakes is a professor of otolaryngology and pediatrics at Albany Medical College, and working closely with Alan S. Boulos, MD ’94, the Lynne and Mark D. Groban MD, ‘67 Distinguished Dean, he will ensure not only that future health professionals are prepared to care for the community, but that the new thoughts and discoveries made at Albany Medical College have a measurable, tangible impact on the quality of care delivered to patients.

“Dr. Mouzakes is a forward-thinking leader who values the synergy of patient care, medical education, and biomedical innovation,” said Raimundo Archibold Jr., chair of the Albany Med Health System Board of Directors. “His proven expertise and diverse skillset will help advance integration of the Albany Med Health System and the care we deliver to our community.”

Dr. Mouzakes has served as executive vice president and hospital general director since 2024 and has been pivotal to enhancements in operating room utilization, the implementation of a unified electronic medical record across the Albany Med Health System, and integration of the Albany Med Health System. Previously, Dr. Mouzakes has served as chief of the Division of Otolaryngology and section chief for Pediatric Otolaryngology before leading ENT to become a standalone department. In 2022, he was named the department’s inaugural chair, guiding its growth into one of the region’s most respected programs.

“Jason is the right leader at the right time for Albany Medical Center Hospital,” Pickett said. “He brings clinical credibility, operational rigor, and a deep understanding of our people and our mission. As we execute First Choice 2030 — our commitment to becoming the region’s most trusted, connected, and transformative academic health system — Jason will be instrumental in elevating quality, strengthening physician alignment, expanding access, and ensuring Albany Medical Center Hospital continues to set the standard for patient-centered, high-value care.”

A graduate of the Albany Medical College/Union College Leadership in Medicine Program, Dr. Mouzakes received his medical degree from Albany Medical College in 1995 and a bachelor’s degree from Union College. He completed a General Surgery residency and Otolaryngology residency at Albany Medical Center, followed by a Pediatric Otolaryngology fellowship at Seattle Children’s Hospital.

He is a member of the Board of Directors of the Double H Ranch—a camp for seriously ill children—and chair of its Medical Advisory Committee.
