Glens Falls Hospital Earns Second Magnet® Designation for Nursing Excellence
During a live video call on October 20, 2025, Glens Falls Hospital learned that the Commission on Magnet® voted unanimously to award the hospital its second Magnet designation. This national honor, given by the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC), is known as the gold standard for nursing excellence. To earn it, hospitals must show strong patient results, high patient satisfaction, and engaged nurses.
The Magnet Journey reflects a commitment to quality and teamwork. Earning this recognition takes time and effort from people across the hospital. The process helps health care teams learn more about their work, build stronger connections, and grow professionally.
At Glens Falls Hospital, following Magnet standards has improved both patient care and the nursing environment. Over the past four years, nurses have worked on projects to improve outcomes and have advanced their education and certifications. In March, nurse leaders submitted a 700-page report showing the hospital’s high-quality care. The Magnet review team rated it “Excellent.” In August, appraisers spent three days at the hospital to confirm that these practices were part of the hospital’s daily culture. They later sent their report to the Commission on Magnet.
The final step came on October 20, when the Commission officially announced the hospital’s second Magnet designation. During the event, the Commission also recognized seven parts of Glens Falls Hospital’s report as national examples of excellence.
“This recognition shows that our nursing and patient care meet the highest standards, reached by less than 10% of hospitals in the country,” said Donna Kirker, Senior Vice President of Patient Services and Chief Nursing Officer. “We are proud and honored to continue this achievement.”
According to the American Nurses Credentialing Center, the Magnet Recognition Program identifies hospitals where nursing leaders work toward better patient outcomes. The program serves as a guide to nursing excellence that supports the whole organization. For nurses, Magnet Recognition means continued learning and growth, and more independence at the bedside. For patients, it means receiving the best care from nurses who are supported to do their best work.
