Functional Neurosurgeon Dr. Kevin Mansfield Joins Albany Medical Center

Kevin Mansfield, MD, has joined the Department of Neurosurgery at Albany Medical Center, part of the Albany Med Health System.

As a fellowship-trained functional neurosurgeon, Dr. Mansfield specializes in the surgical treatment of chronic conditions or disorders that affect a person’s daily function and abilities, such as movement disorders and post-operative, chronic, or cancer pain. The surgical procedures he performs include deep brain stimulation for the treatment of Parkinson’s disease and other movement disorders, epilepsy, and other disorders; spinal cord stimulation; peripheral nerve stimulation; and open cranial and spinal surgeries for pain. He also treats general neurosurgical conditions.

Dr. Mansfield previously was with Mercy Clinic Neurosurgery in Springfield, Mo., and was an associate clerkship director at Missouri State University School of Medicine. He also has worked clinically at Oregon Health Science University Department of Neurologic Surgery and at the University of Louisville Department of Neurosurgery. He has authored or co-authored more than a dozen peer-reviewed journal articles or book chapters.

Dr. Mansfield completed his fellowship in stereotactic and functional neurosurgery at Oregon Health and Science University, Portland, Ore. He completed his neurosurgical residency at the University of Louisville, Louisville, Ky. He received a Master of Science in Physiology and Biophysics from Georgetown University School of Arts and Science in Washington, DC, and received his medical degree from Georgetown University School of Medicine.
