Stephen Sibbitt, MD, MBA, has been named chief clinical officer of the Albany Med Health System

Albany Med Health System today announced the appointment of Stephen Sibbitt, MD, MBA, as chief clinical officer, effective Oct. 19, 2026.

A senior physician executive with nearly three decades of clinical and leadership experience, Dr. Sibbitt joins the Albany Med Health System from Baylor Scott & White Health (BSWH) in Texas, one of the nation’s largest integrated academic health systems. As senior vice president and regional chief medical officer for the Central Texas Region, he led clinical operations across two adult hospitals, a children’s hospital, an extensive ambulatory network, and more than 2,000 physicians, advanced practice providers, and trainees. He was instrumental in guiding regional system integration following the 2013 merger that formed BSWH, standardizing physician governance, service lines, and clinical operations, and unifying the system's credentialing, peer review, and quality frameworks across the expanded network.

“Stephen’s proven leadership and extensive background in health care governance at one of the nation’s top ranked teaching hospitals make him uniquely qualified to guide our enterprise transformation,” said Raimundo Archibold Jr., chair of the Albany Med Health System Board of Directors. “His experience in fostering integration and clinical alignment will be invaluable as we advance our First Choice 2030 vision to establish the Albany Med Health System as the region’s most trusted, connected, and transformative academic health system and the premier choice for patient experience, quality, and clinical excellence.”

As chief clinical officer, Dr. Sibbitt will lead the Health System’s clinical strategy, operations, quality, patient safety, and patient experience, ensuring alignment and an integrated, system-wide model of care that unites care teams across the system. He also will lead the development of innovative programs for population and community health with the aim of measurably optimizing health outcomes and improving system-wide care delivery, quality, and safety efforts.

“The Albany Med Health System's First Choice 2030 vision is both inspiring and aspirational, and I truly believe it will guide our leadership team and board to make the best decisions for our patients and ensure we deliver the accessible, consistently excellent quality of care our communities deserve,” Dr. Sibbitt said. “Throughout my career, I have found deep fulfillment in championing the success and professional growth of the clinical teams I’ve worked with, and I look forward to collaborating across the entire system to advance First Choice 2030.”

Board certified in internal medicine, Dr. Sibbitt completed his postgraduate training at St. John Hospital and Medical Center in Detroit, and The University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston. He earned his medical degree from the American University of the Caribbean and holds an executive MBA from Baylor University. A northeast native, Dr. Sibbitt was raised in Niagara Falls, Ontario.

The appointment supports Albany Med’s First Choice 2030 strategy and its continued evolution into a more connected, integrated, and transformative academic health system. The strategy is focused on making Albany Med the first choice for patients, physicians, and other health care professionals, students, partners, and supporters throughout northeastern New York and western New England.
