Rheumatologist Dr. Helina Maharjan Joins Albany Medical Center

Helina Maharjan, MBBS, has joined the Department of Medicine’s Division of Rheumatology at Albany Medical Center.

Dr. Maharjan sees adult patients with a wide array of rheumatic conditions, including rheumatoid arthritis, psoriatic arthritis, scleroderma, and lupus. She has a special interest in treating myositis, which occurs when the immune system attacks muscles, and vasculitis, particularly IgG4-related disease, in which an excess of the antibody protein immunoglobulin G4 causes tissue swelling, tumor-like masses, and scarring on organs.

Board certified in internal medicine, Dr. Maharjan completed a fellowship in rheumatology at Albany Medical College and a residency in internal medicine at Bassett Medical Center in Cooperstown. She earned her medical degree from the University of Dhaka in Bangladesh, after which she spent time working as a medical officer at hospitals in Nepal.
