Albany Medical College celebrated its White Coat Ceremony Friday, July 25, with 145 incoming medical students, their friends, and families at The Palace Theatre in Albany. In addition to donning their symbolic white coats for the first time, students also recited the Declaration of Geneva, a modern-day physician’s oath.

Selected from more than 14,000 applications, the Class of 2029 comes from 27 states, including 47 students from New York, 22 from the Capital Region, and seven graduates of Shaker High School in Latham. Twenty-two languages are spoken by the new students, and 19 birth countries are represented.

Forty-one of the new students graduated from one of Albany Medical College’s joint degree programs at Siena College, Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, and Union College. Twenty-seven are entering with master’s degrees, while the majority have undergraduate degrees in biologic sciences.

“The white coat is a powerful reminder of our commitment to deliver care with integrity, empathy, and humanism,” said Alan S. Boulos, MD, ’94, The Lynne and Mark D. Groban, MD ’67 Distinguished Dean of Albany Medical College. “We are proud to support our new students in their medical journeys and look forward to growing with them as we guide them to becoming compassionate, skilled physicians.”

The ceremony wraps up a week of orientation activities and the students’ first week of classes.
