Specimen Collection: 1. Female genital swabs: Using swabs provided in collection kit, obtain specimen from female endocervical canal only. 2. Urine samples: Patient must NOT have urinated within 1 hour prior to collection. Collect first 20-30 mLs voided only. Larger collection volumes may compromise test sensitivity. Female patients should NOT cleanse the labial area prior to collection. 3. Liquid cytology: 1 mL of PreservCyt specimen. Special collection kit and instructions may be obtained from the Microbiology Lab at 262-3511.
Minimum Volume: 2 mL for urine
Handling Instructions for Offsite Areas: Transport APTIMA collection device to lab within 7 days. Maintain at room or refrigerated temperature. If transport is delayed >48 hours, freeze. Urine in primary collection container should be transported to the lab within 24 hours or add urine to the Gen-Probe Aptima collection device. The final volume must be between the two black lines on device. Min. 2.0 mL. Maintain sample at room temp or refrigerate. Gray top urine vacutainers are unacceptable.
