Specimen Collection: Nasopharyngeal swabs in viral transport are specimens of choice. Tracheal aspirates, BAL, etc. are acceptable.
Minimum Volume: 0.5 mL
Handling Instructions for Offsite Areas: NP swab in viral transport. Place on wet ice or refrigerate. Transport to the laboratory ASAP. Do not use Calcium alginate or wooden swabs or cotton swabs.
Reference Values: Negative for Influenza A, Influenza B and RSV RNA.
