Specimen Collection: Conjunctival scraping or culturette swab of discharge. (If result of trauma or foreign body, please indicate.) IF N. GONORRHOAE IS SUSPECTED, INOCULATE JEMBEC AT BEDSIDE AND ACTIVATE CO2 PELLET. Transport to lab ASAP.
Minimum Volume:
Handling Instructions for Offsite Areas: Directly Inoculate media supplied by laboratory. If not transported within 10 minutes, incubate at 35-37°C. Swabs: Transport at room temperature within 2 hours. Fluids/Aspirates: Transport within 15 minutes at room temperature.
Reference Values: No growth or normal skin flora. Potential pathogens: Staphylococcus aureus, Haemophilus spp., Streptococcus pneumoniae, Neisseria gonorrhoeae, Neisseria meningitidis, Moraxella spp. Identification and/or susceptibility performed if indicated.
